Oh, Jane

One of the best parts of entertainment in 2008 has been the Masterpiece Theater Jane Austen marathon. I have loved every installment. One of the most anticipated for me was Northanger Abby, a story about a girl with an overactive imagination from reading too many novels who gets involved with people who are only after money (which she has none). It was great. I love to stitch while watching these movies. I get a little thrill when the heroines are stitching in the movie.

At the end of Mansfield Park, PBS showed a little promo asking which of Jane's leading men do you prefer? Such a great question. Do you like a man like Captain Wentworth, who, even years after knowing you, still is in love? Or how about Edmund, who is kind and sincere and values integrity. Or how about the infamous Mr. Darcy? He may be a little off-putting at first, but is utterly devoted in the end. What I love about Jane Austen is that every gets what they deserve in the end. The sweet girl makes the best match, while those who scheme and lie get he same back at them. I can't wait for the rest of the series.

How great to watch the Jane Austin Marathon while stitching. Have you ever tried listening to her novels with Books on Tape? They're even better because you can picture it in your mind while the narrator reads along with all the right accents and voice parts. The best part is you don't have to take your eyes off your stitching, even for a second (unless Patch starts to climb on top of the piano).

ooohhhh, a Jane Austen marathon...absolute music to my ears! Okay hands down my favorite would have to be Mr. Darcy. I've been in love with him since I was 14. I'm bummed I've missed part of the series, but will look for it now. Thanks for the heads up!

Nuts, I missed it. I saw the ad for it and meant to watch...do you know if they will repeat it? bummer if they don't.

mlk and leslie -- I think they will be repeating it. Tonight is "Miss Austen Regrets" which is about the lady herself. The one I am not looking forward to is Pride and Prejudice, only because I own it and have seen it a million plus times and would like to see something new. Maybe I will watch Jane Eyre from last year instead. That was a great one as well.
