Weight Loss Wednesday

I am down a whopping 2.6 pounds this week. Yay me! I am almost to a total of 25 pounds -- I am only point 2 away. Point 2! Next week I'll get my next WW charm: a disk that says "25 pounds." I put my charms on the WW 10% key chain, which I keep looped on my diaper bag. I feel really good, and am walking with a step that is slightly sassier than before.

I tried posting two different videos and was denied. What gives, blogger? They were of my adorable kids dancing to Glee. They love the music and can't wait to see the show. Maybe when they're 20.

On a sad note, my parents dog Harry had to be put down today. He was very old. We got him the summer after my freshman year of college. He lived a good doggy life, but towards the end had no control over certain things that one should always be in control of. Harry will be greatly missed, but we have comfort knowing all dogs go to heaven.

My Musical

Sometimes I imagine my life was a musical. Think about how cool it would be if when you picked up your dry cleaning, the workers were all dancing and singing a song about cleaning other peoples clothes. The song for the past week is "Too Darn Hot" from Kiss Me, Kate. We have had two days this past week that have hit 100 degrees. Truly, too darn hot.

Yesterday was Curly's work picnic. Last year it was held in August on a day that was in the high 90s. I was pregnant and cried it was so uncomfortable. The organizers decided to move it to the cooler month of June. It reached 100 yesterday, but felt like 104. It was pretty nasty, but I did not cry. We let the kids get soaked to try to beat the heat, but it didn't work. They were just hot and wet by the end, as opposed to being simply hot. What song did I sing at the picnic? Why, "Once -a-Year Day" from Pajama Game. Luckily no one was chasing anyone around a tree, or kissing anyone's ear. It's a pretty tame group.

Today we are home, nursing Mini-me's ear infection. The doctor told us no swimming for 5 days. We are on day 3. I may take the kids to the pool this evening, but with strict instructions not to dunk her head. That will be hard for her, since she's part mermaid. Patch won't care if we go or not, since all he wants to do is hang out in his underwear today. I've said it before and I'll say it again: boys are strange.

Sew and Tell

It's been so long since I've done a sew and tell! I'm coming in just under the wire, as it's nearly 11 pm. Oh, and Mini-me is awake. Her ear hurts.
This was the muslin for Gail's wedding dress. Sadly, it didn't fit. Her wedding is just around the corner, so instead of going out and getting the pattern with the next sizes in it, she is opting to find her dress in a store. It reminds me of the Friends episode where Monica learns her parents have spent all the money meant for her wedding on a trip and a home gym, since they never thought she would get married. While she and Rachel try to economize their plans, Rachel starts to cry and says, "It's okay. You can wear off the rack." Hilarious.

I am almost caught up on the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along. I did three of the blocks this week. I have one left and then I'm caught up. Then the new one comes out on Monday and I'll probably be behind again.
This one, while it looks so pretty, gave me the most trouble. One day, I would like to learn to read.
I love this block. I already have fabric set aside to do a whole quilt out of this one.
I had to unpick seams with this one. I have no idea where my seam ripper is, so imagine how fun it was. So fun.

Now go on over to Amy's blog and check out the other finishes this week!

*EDIT -- I just saw that the new block was posted this past Monday. Yup, way behind!

Could it BE any Hotter?

I think not. And no pool for us today. I was going to take the kids, but then Patch licked the carpet and threw up. Sad, gross, but true.

Weight Loss Wednesday

The thing I dreaded happened this week: I was up. Only by point 6 pounds, but still. It's no fun to step on a scale and be up. Perhaps it was Curly's blueberry pie that did me in. If so, it was a delicious .6 pounds.

It's been hot and humid around here. I don't much care for the "hot" part, but add "and humid" and it pretty much does me in. We've been heavy users of the pool so far this summer. Some days we go twice. Today I decided we would go after lunch. We got up, ate breakfast, Ginger took her nap, I exercised, and Mini-me and Patch stayed in their pjs. They are finishing a leisurely lunch, and then we'll suit up and head out. Curly is going to meet us after work with some Giant Eagle fried chicken. We do the best we can with the weather. Hopefully any thunderstorms will hold off until after we're done.

So my goal for this week is to exercise more. I'm pretty good and parking far from the store and walking a little more, going up and down stairs when I can, and carrying my baby instead of pushing her in a stroller or cart. Accidental exercise is great for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but I also need the purposeful workout. This morning I did one of my Firm workout DVDs. It was great. It was a 30 minute quick workout that combined cardio and weights. I am going to be sore, but if I keep out it I'll be hot, too.

Summer Bloggin'

School is out, it's in the 90s today, and we have been kissed by the sun on our noses. It's officially summer. More time at the pool means less time at the computer, so my bad blogging trend might continue. Pleas accept my apologies.

I've had a lot that I've been working on. Sadly, I didn't take a picture of the bag I made for Mini-me's teacher. It was cute, and made from this pattern. I have more fabric left, so I'll make another one just like it and take a photo. Then we'll all pretend it's the exact one I made for Ms. Schwab.

Also in the works: a wedding dress for my friend Gail. It's a challenge, but a fun one. She's going to look stunning!

Weight Loss Wednesday

Poor Mini-me woke up this morning thinking it was Thursday and that tomorrow is the last day of school. Nope. Although sometimes I think it would be nice to skip a day. Especially a rainy one like this one where I have to get a filling replaced. That's no fun. Last night I made a present for Mini-me's teacher. It's a cute little bag. I'm going to have a hard time letting it go! I'll post a picture as soon as I give it to her.

I had a great week this week. I am down 1.4 pounds, for a grand total of 22.8 pounds lost. I hit my 10% goal, and got my great Weight Watchers key chain. I put it right on the outside of my diaper bag, so I can look at it and be reminded to stay on program. I had to lose points this week. Ginger is now eating some food, like rice cereal and applesauce and green beans (which make her gag). When you're a nursing mom, you get 10 extra points a day. When you nurse and are supplementing with food, you only get 5 extra points. It hasn't been that bad. As long as I plan ahead, I'm good to go. I try to eat things that have a lot of food for their point value, which makes me fuller for longer. Is "fuller" a word? It should be.

This summer we are driving to Sun Valley for a family reunion. I am so excited. The kids keep talking about all the fun things we are going to do. Mainly, they want to ice skate. Me, too! The drive has me a little nervous, though. With fast food and junk food being the norm for a road trip, planning ahead is going to be key so I don't balloon up on the way there. Any tips to help me out? I'm sure we could come up with a great list!

Cousins

This weekend we had our DC area cousins over for a celebration barbecue. We were celebrating birthdays, ballet recitals, and Memorial Day. The weather was warm, the food delicious, and the company delightful. Wish you were here!

Weight Loss Wednesday

I had a good week -- I maintained my weight. I call it good because I didn't gain, and I ate cake. So, a good week. I woke up today with a renewed intensity and intentions for the upcoming week. I had a plan to exercise every day. Then I fell. I am convinced I am ranked high among the clumsiest people on the earth. I tripped over nothing but my feet. But I am now sporting a very scraped knee, a cut index finger, a possible broken pinkie, and a scraped and bruised shoulder. Long time readers might recall that this time last year I fell and twisted my ankle. I would much rather have a bruised left side than deal with a twisted ankle again.

So maybe tomorrow I'll work out. Or maybe I'll just concentrate on walking.
