Commercials

Remember that commercial that begins with a collect call? It's a son calling his parents. When asked to say his name after the tone, he says, "wehadababyitsaboy." And then the dad rejects the charges and sits down to say to his wife, "They had a baby. It's a boy."

Well. Blog friends. Wehadababyitsaboy.

That explains my absence in a nutshell. Last spring I found out we were (surprise!) having another baby. For a number of reasons we kept it quiet for a long time. And then when we started to tell people, I lost the will to blog and sew and cook and clean and do anything besides moan and groan. It was not pretty.

But you know what is pretty? My baby boy Finn.

I miss blogging. I have a lot to say, and only a few tiny people around during the day to say it to. And they don't listen. So I'll meet you back here in a bit, okay? Okay.

Yoo-hoo! Hello, family!

What a CUTE family! It's so nice to see you back!

And those collect calls are an embarrassing memory for me. During my freshman year at that big school in Utah that we all know and love, I had just arrived back at school from Christmas break on the other side of the country. It was standard practice to let your parents know you arrived safely by placing a collect call to to them for yourself --
Me: "Hello Operator, I'd like to place a collect call for Anna.
Operator: "Ok. Can you please hold while I get your party on the line?"
Me: "Ok."
Looooong Pause on hold where I'm thinking of who knows what, but not what I'm doing.
Operator: "Anna?"
Me: "Yes?"
Doh! So, I had to endure a long lecture about making illegal collect calls or something like that. I have no idea what she said 'cause all I could think was that I wasn't smart enough for a life of crime!
