You know, I don't really get "cravings." Sure, there are things I'm in the mood for, but rarely is it: "If I don't have this exact thing, I will die!" Until Sunday. I was sitting in church, trying to pay attention to the importance of food storage (because it is so important), when a craving hit. It was desperate. I needed ice, and I needed it NOW. It took all my restraint not to run screaming from the room, so desperate was my need for the arctic treat. And then, after church, I had to wait 15 minutes for people to come get the supplies for our service project. Torture!
I find myself crunching and munching on ice more often than I ever have before. I wait until it's the perfect size and consistency -- where it breaks apart easily with one chomp. Man oh man, is it ever satisfying.
Weird, right?

Weird, yes, uncommon, no. I had an ice chomping 'thing' a few years ago, mentioned it to my doctor when I was having a check-up, she said I was probably anemic, did a blood test, and yup. I was. Your sis-in-law JBL chomps ice when she is pregnant, too, and recommends putting a little water in the ice, allowing it to melt just a tad which makes for a more satisfying crunch. In the meantime -- check your iron.
That's your only craving. You are doing well. Enjoy the ice. Listen to your mom's advice.
Amen, to Patty. I was all about ice and I thought it was because I was just craving a cherry limeade with that kind of special Sonic drive-in ice (which I did want, but never got in this place). I was anemic. Start taking iron; it gives you energy, too!
Totally not weird. I crave ice when I am pregnant, but I am glad to know it might be my iron. I'll check it out.:)
It could be worse, but I'm with the others--get your iron checked!
it means you are low on iron. make sure your prenatals have enough iron in them. you are making another child and may need some more nutrients. when i needed milk for my body i had the strongest milk craving in my life and i drank it all the time. i hate milk.
next time i will just read the previosly posted comments and say see above.
Thanks, everyone! I'm going to have my doc check my iron levels next week.
