Really?

Today is the last day of April? Really? When did this happen? And Flower's birthday is less than a week away? Really? Huh. And how much school is left? Only 6 weeks for Mini-me, and 4 for Flower? REALLY? Wow.

May is going to be awesome. I have some really fun ideas. For example, you've all heard of Christmas in July, but have you heard of Halloween in May? Well, maybe I made that up. The fun will be to finish my Halloween quilt in May so that I can enjoy it in October. I also have some smaller projects that I need to finish, so it will be a fun month! Join me, won't you? If only I could figure out how to make one of those cute buttons for the side of my blog...

Outside

The weather has been nice -- in the 90s nice. We've logged in some good time at the park. There is sand all over my house from the sandbox. Ah, the great outdoors.

MS Walk of Aught Nine

It was a raging success. Over 2,000 people participated, which is a huge turnout. The walk was scenic at times, walking right near the Capitol and a couple of museums on the Washington Mall. And yes, Patch did run nearly the entire 3.1 miles. More pictures to come! Right now we are all pooped.

MS Walk Update

We are one week away from the 2009 MS Walk. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!! We are planning on walking as a family. I am not sure how far we'll make it, but we'll go as far as we can.

This spring marks 15 years since MS put my mom in a wheelchair. She didn't stay in it very long, but as a family, we will never forget that time. By the end of the summer, she was using a cane, and a year later, people were amazed that she was moving around like normal. This is thanks to several things. First, my mom is the furthest thing from lazy. As a child, I do not remember her sitting, except at meals. She worked very hard with physical therapists and personal trainers. Now she is in better shape than me. And that's okay. Second, my mom got on some amazing medication. She gives herself shots every other day. It has helped heal her brain and prevent major attacks from coming again. Third, my mom has a profound faith in Jesus Christ. With God, all things are possible.

My Favorite Quilt

Park City Girl is hosting an online quilting festival, and I thought I would share my favorite quilt I have made.

This is it. Unfortunately, my picture cut the border off all the way around, but you can see it up near the top. I made it for my sister-in-law as a Christmas gift 2007. The colors are modern and funky, which are two things I love in a quilt. I hope she still likes it. If not, it can have a home in my house!

NYC, What is it About You?

While Mini-me was on Spring Break, and Flower was on Easter Break, we headed north to NYC to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa. They have a fabulous apartment on Central Park North, right across the street from the park.

We took the subway a lot. It was a great way to get around. The girls were funny and would say things like "We don't even have a subway in Frederick!" No. No we don't.There were a lot of people. Sometimes the kids got squished.

Mini-me was in heaven in the Hershey's Store. Had this giant bottle of syrup been real, and not a piggy bank, we would have bought it.
We had dinner at the famous Sylvia's, and even met Sylvia herself. It was delicious.

Grandma and Grandpa gave us tickets to go see The Little Mermaid. It was the girls' first Broadway show, and they loved every minute of it.
With the park so close to the apartment, we spent quite a bit of time there. We wandered around with Flower while Patch and Mini-me took a nap with Grandma.

The girls loved the lights of Time Square, but thought is was a little too full of people. Saturday was very rainy and foiled all of our fun outdoor plans. Next time we'll have to see the scenes from Enchanted in Central Park.

Easter Dress

Mini-me's Easter dress is complete. It was so fun to make, but I was glad I started with the easier shirt. Had I not, I would have been scratching my head more than once. It's another Oliver + S pattern. It has pockets and looks just darling on. I am sure I will have a plethora of posed pictures on Sunday.

I Made That

Mini-me went to school today in her new homemade shirt. She was so pleased. I was pretty tickled myself. I did buttons. Buttons! I am becoming a regular seamstress. Other than needing a little more ironing, I think it looks pretty good. Mini-me's hair needs a little ironing, too.

French Invasion

Our Parisian Uncle came for a visit this weekend. I made him a delicious meal of pancakes and bacon. Patch thought he was the Bees Knees, and the girls wanted to know all about life in Paris. And Paree. Apparently, they are two different places. Who knew? Thanks for the visit, Uncle Jim!

Curly is golfing this afternoon. That officially makes me the "Best Wife Ever." It's a title I will gladly hold. He doesn't have the best day for it because it is pretty cloudy, but it's better than a finger in your eye.

Last night, as a new April Fools tradition, we told corny jokes around the dinner table. I found a great site with funny kids jokes. There were several variations of the Hundred-Acre Wood character looking in the toilet joke. Mini-me thought those were the best. Flower tried to April Fool her gym teacher by drawing big red dots all over her. Curly April Fooled his co-workers, and I got Curly good by letting him believe I had forgotten to go pick up Flower from school.

Curly just sent me a text message that he got a role in Cats and Way off Broadway. I giggle when I think of it, because his bits and pieces will be out there for the world to see. On that note, get your tickets now!
